Not to be confused with income protection insurance, ASU (Accident, Sickness and Unemployment) insurance cover provides you with a monthly tax-free sum, paid directly to you, that replaces your income should you expectedly find yourself not being able to work through no fault of your own.
ASU cover ensures you are financially secure while recovering from an illness or injury or finding a new job if you’ve been made redundant. It reduces the impact on your loss of earnings for a maximum of 12 months.
It won’t replace your entire loss of earnings but will go a long way to helping support you and your family, giving you the time to get better or find a job.
Why do I need ASU insurance cover?
We’ll keep it simple.
If you were off work long-term and your employer doesn’t provide any benefits of workplace sick pay, could you and your family live on just £109.40 a week for a maximum of 28 weeks? That’s what you’d get from the government’s Statutory Sick Pay policy as at 2023.
If you were made redundant tomorrow with no new job in the offering, could you and your family live on £59.20 a week (under the age of 24) or £74.70 a week (25 years and over)? You’d get that if you made a Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) claim.
